What is natural leather?
Products you'll love even more in 10 years
It is said that approximately 85% of leather products currently in circulation are chrome-tanned using chemicals, while the remaining 15% are vegetable-tanned using natural ingredients extracted from plants. Among these, LENY specializes in full vegetable tanning using pit tanning, a method employed by only three companies in Japan. Pit tanning slowly permeates the tannins deep into the fibers without damaging the leather until the very end. It takes about two months for the leather to be produced, and it is a very time-consuming and costly process. However, this results in beautiful aging and a durable, long-lasting, natural leather.
Japanese leather, crafted with time and effort, possesses the warmth of life and the skill of artisans, making its quality something to be proud of worldwide.
It is not something to be discarded as trends change, but rather a tool where even scars become memories.
We want to protect the joy of nurturing, which can never be experienced with inexpensive mass-produced goods, together with Japanese tanners.
We propose a time that marks a long, deep journey together.
Leather products are made from the hides of animals used for meat, such as those raised for consumption. Therefore, no animals are taken for the sole purpose of making leather products. As long as people continue to eat meat, the hides that are consistently produced are utilized as leather products without waste. This is an eco-friendly and sustainable practice that has continued since ancient times. Furthermore, frequently replacing items that don't last long puts a burden on the global environment when products are manufactured and discarded. On the other hand, natural leather products are durable and long-lasting. In the long run, leather is a material that is gentle on the earth and very eco-friendly.
