NATURAL LEATHER LENY

LENY contributes to a sustainable daily life closer to nature through natural leather.

What is natural leather?

It is said that approximately 85% of leather products currently on the market are chrome-tanned using chemicals, and the remaining 15% are vegetable-tanned using natural ingredients extracted from plants. Among these, LENY handles full vegetable tanning using a pit method, which is only used by three companies in Japan. Tanning in a pit allows the tannins to slowly penetrate deep into the fibers without damaging the leather throughout the process. This process takes approximately two months and is very labor-intensive and costly, but it results in beautiful aging and durable, long-lasting natural leather.

Japanese leather, crafted with time and effort, possesses the warmth of life and the skill of artisans, making it a quality that can be proudly presented to the world.

It is not something to be discarded with changing trends, but rather a tool where even scratches turn into memories.

We want to protect the joy of nurturing, which cannot be experienced with inexpensive mass-produced goods, together with Japanese tanners.

We propose a time for you to engrave moments together, long and deeply.

Why is leather sustainable?

Leather products are made from the hides of animals raised for meat and other purposes. Therefore, no animal is slaughtered solely for the purpose of making leather products. As long as people continue to eat meat, the hides that are produced are utilized as leather products without waste. This is an ecological and sustainable practice that has continued since ancient times. Furthermore, frequently replacing products that don't last long places a burden on the global environment when those products are manufactured and discarded. On the other hand, natural leather products are durable and long-lasting. In the long run, leather is an environmentally friendly and very ecological material.

HISTORY

Having been involved in the leather industry for a long time, I have always wanted to contribute to a sustainable future by promoting natural leather in customers' daily lives, selling products manufactured with the best materials and techniques at fair prices. Currently, 80% of domestic leather products are imported from overseas, and domestic production has declined to 1/5 of its peak. The Japanese leather industry is currently dominated by inexpensive Chinese products and high-end European brands. Japanese products, including those from tanneries, boast very high quality and technology, but they are not well known to general consumers. With an aging workforce, many businesses are closing down. This has led me to feel a strong sense of urgency to preserve Japan's traditional leather industry for future generations. I want to deliver truly good products with integrity. With this in mind, I launched LENY. I will strive to contribute to the development of the entire leather industry.

LENY's Commitment

Surface finish

We use the heat of the sun to apply LENY's original special oil. This suppresses fingerprints and dirt, which are weaknesses of undyed leather, and subtly colors the leather, giving it a more authentic leather look.

We cut each part of the product according to the most suitable section and fiber flow for the item being created, which significantly impacts the product's durability.
